I seem to keep finding first generation Geo Prizms around me - I’ve seen two in the last few days, which brings my total to 4 this year. The more I see them, the more I keep digging into the AE9X platform, which lead me to find this...
The AE92 FX GT. We never got this body style in the US, which is truly a shame, as I think it looks great in a late ‘80s econobox kinda way. Part of me wants to swap a 3 door with a 4A-GE 20V (Silvertop, perhaps) with a C56 and LSD, run it as is for a while, then build it to as high as it can rev (within reason, sort-of). The metallic black with gold accents and Work Equip 03 (or knock-off) wheels really does it for me, though I think I’d be just as happy with a Super White Prizm. I mean, I’d really just be in it for the engine...
This has me thinking enough that I’m starting to question whether I want to go down this path or import something from Japan in a few year’s time (leading contender is a BG5 Legacy GT-B w/ 5-speed). Both have their merits, but I’m starting to think that an AE9X car would be more fun, less hassle, and less finicky than a BG5 GT-B (plus, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! seems to enjoy himself in modified Corollas). Though, I do have thoughts of buying a car in Japan, driving it for a week or two, and shipping it stateside, which the GT-B would satisfy (though a FX GT could satisfy that as well). Ideally, I’d get both, one earlier than the other, but I can’t help but slightly worry that it will get even harder to find either one down the road, making me feel like I’d be making a firm decision with no looking back.
Luckily, I have time to think this through... plus, I have more immediate plans (well, sooner, anyway), but that’s a story for another time...

I love how seeing a few Geo Prizms took you on a journey to find out more about the model lineage. It makes so much sense in an Oppo sort of way.

it’s amazing how many different shaped bodies there were in that series Corolla.

That’s probably worthy of its own post! I believe there were 8 different bodies available for that generation.
